GCC - Scientific Knowledge Management
Description: Research centers and universities are
knowledge-intensive institutions, where the knowledge
creation and distribution are constant – and this knowledge
should be managed. In spite of it, scientific work had
been known for being solitary work, in which human interaction
happened only in small groups within a research domain.
Nowadays, due to technology improvements, scientific
data from different sources is available, communication
between researchers is facilitated and scientific information
creation and exchange is faster than in the past. However,
the focus on information exchange is too limited, and
it is necessary to create systems that enable true cooperation
and knowledge management in scientific environments.
To facilitate a more expressive exchanging, sharing
and dissemination of knowledge and its management, we
create a scientific knowledge management environment
in which researchers may share their data, experiences,
ideas, process definition and execution, and obtain
all the necessary information to execute their tasks,
make decisions, learn and disseminate knowledge.

- Knowledge Management Centered in Equipment
Description: For reach competitive advantage, manufacturing
firms need not only coordinate business and cross-boarder
activities, but must also integrate and improve internal
process, coordinate access to internal and external
knowledge, exploit and develop the employees’ capabilities.
In a manufacturing context, there are several levels
(equipments <-> processes <-> products <->
market) which are related, and the advantage competitive
and success in the market depends of the synergy of
these levels. In all phases, we have people and specific
information associated, and the handling of specific
information by people, in a context, associated with
an experience of use, constitutes the knowledge creation.

AC - Managing Knowledge about Symptoms, Incidents and
Problems for Autonomic Computing
Description: Nowadays, in the IT scenario, there is
an increasing need for knowledge to solve problems in
a faster and safer way. People create and change information
faster than in the past. Although the majority these
exchanges are made via the documental form, there is
also a large amount informal or tacit knowledge exchange
in people’s interactions. The Methexis AC environment
was designed to aim at the use of Knowledge Management
in the Autonomic Computing scenario. There, employees
can be provided with all necessary knowledge to execute
their tasks, to make decisions, collaborate with one
another, disseminate individual knowledge to transform
it into organizational knowledge, and organize and create
knowledge about symptoms and problem resolutions.

GNoSIS - Meaning Negotiation for Consensus
Formation in Ontology Integration
Description: In project teams, having an unique vocabulary
and a common understanding about terms is essential
to the success of the project. This issue especially
disturbs a design project, which has a multidisciplinary
team and must consist of people with specific and different
knowledge, from diverse domains, to execute special
activities. Negotiation arises from this context as
a process for the construction of consensus. The goal
of this work is to present a model of negotiation to
obtain the consensus of meanings, based on models of
business negotiation, and consequently, deal with conflicts
and the multiplicity of understandings of a concept,
making this negotiation a way for creating value for
all agents involved.

Social Network Analysis and Balancing
Description: Studies about how people interact, and
their ideas and influence propagate through a social
network have been studied in a number of domains, including
the diffusion of medical carries, technological innovations,
the impact during an acquisition of new firms process,
the sudden and widespread adoption of various strategies
in game-theoretic settings, and the effects of “word
of mouth” in the promotion of new products. So, to enable
that knowledge flows by a social network it is necessary
identify some problems in its structure and balancing
it, permiting that nodes will be always reached. But
a different aspect that influences the manner and the
possibility of interaction among 2 or more people is
the relation space x time. This project studies about
how spatial temporal information can aim the construction,
the balancing and improvement of social networks, and
also how we can analyse the social network growth.
