Este trabalho investiga a teoria dos meridianos e pontos de acupuntura da medicina tradicional chinesa em face dos fundamentos da ciência biomédica contemporânea, com o intuito de estabelecer um nexo entre o modelo chinês tradicional e o modelo científico do organismo humano. A constituição do campo da medicina tradicional chinesa e o processo de absorção deste saber pelas sociedades ocidentais foram abordados dentro de uma perspectiva histórica que buscou preservar o significado e as relações implícitas nas categorias epistemológicas deste saber. A investigação da hipótese neuroendócrina da acupuntura permitiu a identificação do circuito neural crítico para modelagem computacional. A investigação do estímulo da acupuntura no âmbito da transdução de sinais mecânicos no tecido conjuntivo e no âmbito dos campos bioelétricos oferece uma explicação para a teoria dos meridianos.
This thesis investigates the Meridian and Acupuncture Points Theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine in relation to the foundations of contemporary Biomedical Sciences, targeting the establishment of a nexus between the traditional Chinese model and the contemporary scientific model of the human organism. The epistemological categories of the Traditional Chinese Medicine field and the process through which the West has absorbed its knowledge are viewed from a historical perspective that seeks to preserve the meaning of Traditional Chinese Medicine embedded in its linguistic process. The investigation of the neurohumoral hypothesis for acupuncture has led to the identification of the critical neural circuitry for computer modelling. The investigation of acupuncture stimulation in the domain of mechanical signal transduction in connective tissue and in bioeletric fields provides an explanation for the Meridian Theory.
