Prof. Luiz Arthur S. Faria (PESC) will be a panelist at EGAPES 2024 (Meeting of Managers, Articulators and Researchers in Solidarity Economy), as one of the representatives of the network of young researchers Observatory of Community Banks and Social Currencies (OBM).

The meeting will be held in Maricá, being promoted by Banco Mumbuca - a civil society organization that participates in the Brazilian Network of Community and Municipal Banks. The Network has around 180 experiences of community banks since the pioneer Bancos Palmas (created in Fortaleza, 1998). Such experiences include "social currencies", which have been undergoing a strong digitalization process in the last decade.

The participation of the PESC professor will be focused on the process of digitizing social currencies in the State of Rio de Janeiro. This is the case of the Mumbuca currency, which circulates in Maricá, on par with the Real, and which began circulation in digital media. The professor will address the potential and differences of the digital materialities of the Mumbuca currency, as well as other experiences in the state, such as those in the cities of Niterói, Itaboraí, Cabo Frio, Iguaba Grande and Saquarema.
