Maria Gabriella Cavalcante Basilio, master's student at PESC, received the Best Presentation Award for her work entitled "Population model of the host and symbiont network for the study of coral bleaching" presented as a poster at the V International Course on Theoretical and Applied Aspects of Systems Biology, held from October 9th to 11th at CCS/UFRJ.

The work presents a population growth model for hosts and symbionts that interact through a symbiotic network (bipartite) under the effect of water temperature variation. The work uses real data from symbiotic networks and mathematical modeling with coupled differential equations to study population dependence and network characteristics. This is the topic of his master's thesis being supervised by Prof. Daniel Ratton Figueiredo.

Congratulations Gabriella on the award!
