The Informatics and Society research area of the Systems and Computer Engineering Program (PESC/COPPE/UFRJ) participated in the Symposium on the History of Informatics in Latin America and the Caribbean (SHIALC), held from August 14 to 16 in Bahía Blanca, Argentina, being promoted by the Sociedad Argentina de Informática (SADIO) in conjunction with the Universidad Nacional del Sur (UNS).

Argentine Informatics Conference (JATTO 53) is an annual conference held since 1961, organized by the Argentine Informatics Society (SADIO). The JAIIOs bring together researchers, students and professionals from academia, industry and government, Argentine and foreign, with the aim of expanding knowledge of the computer science discipline, stimulating links and promoting teaching, research and applications in this discipline. Professor Henrique Luis Cukierman presented the research "In defense of the Cobra: a manuscript and its stories". 

The article "(Pre)Histories of E-dinheiro: a sociotechnical look at the materiality of Brazilian digital social currency" was presented by professor Luiz Arthur Silva de Faria, whose presentation was awarded by the Sociedad Argentina de Informática as the best work exhibition of the event.
