Prof. Carlos Eduardo Pedreira is organizing from April 8th to 13th, for the first-time outside Europe, the EuroFlow Consortium meeting in Rio de Janeiro.

The EuroFlow Consortium consists of 20 diagnostic research groups in the areas of flow cytometry and molecular diagnostics.

UFRJ is the only non-European member of the consortium, which began its collaborative research efforts in 2006. PESC has a fundamental importance in the consortium in the quantitative area, specifically in the construction of models for diagnosing lymphomas and leukemias.

All other 19 groups are constituted of researchers with medical or biological training. In this way, PESC can be proud to be contributing in a unique way to the processing of flow cytometry data.

The event will bring together, in a closed format, around 60 EuroFlow members from different countries from the 8th to the 11th.

On the 12th and 13th, the event will be educational and open to the public upon registration. All technical activities will take place at the Hotel Pestana in Copacabana.

The celebration party, closed to EuroFlow members, will be at the Piraquê club with the participation of the Mangueira drums "Grupo Explosão de Elite da Baterioa da Mangueira", led by our dear Guty, secretary of PESC, with wines selected by Roberto Rodrigues, sommelier and our colleague at PESC.

The main objective of EuroFlow is the development and standardization of fast, accurate, and highly sensitive flow cytometric tests for diagnosis and prognostic (sub)classification of hematological malignancies as well as for evaluation of treatment effectiveness during follow-up. This includes the introduction of novel flow cytometric methods for replacing several types of molecular techniques (particularly PCR-based detection of fusion genes and oncogenes).
