2017 IISE Annual Conference (Pittsburgh, May 20-23, 2017) - Security Engineering Track
Monday, 07 November 2016

The Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineers (IISE) is sponsoring the Security Engineering Track at the 2017 IISE Annual Conference and Expo at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, May 20-23, 2017. The conference is a forum for exchanging knowledge and discoveries in the industrial and systems engineering research and practitioner communities. The 2017 IISE Annual Conference and Expo will be one conference. There are no longer separate ISERC and Applied Solutions sessions. This exciting change will bring researchers and practitioners together to share the latest advances in national and international security.  To see the additional changes for the 2017 IISE Annual Conference and Expo, please visit:

As track chairs of the Security Engineering Track, we would like to encourage you to contribute to the conference by submitting an abstract.  Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present their work in a session. Each session will be 80 minutes and have four presenters.  Each speaker will have 20 minutes for his or her presentation.  Abstracts are welcome for the Security Engineering Track – we are looking for abstracts that share the latest research, case analyses, and applications in all areas of national and international security, including but not limited to extreme event modeling, counter terrorism, critical infrastructure risk analysis, and emergency/disaster preparedness assessment.  Below is a list of Security Engineering topics that we hope to see in Pittsburgh:

We strongly encourage all presenters to submit a full length paper for the conference proceedings. The papers should contain results that are significant and have archival value to the industrial and systems engineering research and practitioner community.  Full papers have a six-page limit and will undergo a double-blind peer review process. All accepted papers are indexed by ProQuest.  IISE is currently working on uploading papers of previous years onto the IISE website.  Papers are not required, but strongly encouraged. Presentation only submissions will not be indexed in the conference proceedings.

The important deadlines for the conference are:

•    Abstract Submission Deadline:                    November 7, 2016

•    Notification of Decision on Abstract:                 November 28, 2016

•    Submission of Full Papers (optional but encouraged):        January 16, 2017

•    Notification of Decision on Paper:                 February 20, 2017

•    Final Version of Full Paper Due:                     March 6, 2017

•    2017 IISE Annual Conference and Expo                May 20-23, 2017

If your abstract or paper is accepted: (a) the presenting author for the paper must register for the conference by March 13, 2017 (presentations/papers without the presenting author registered for the conference will be withdrawn from the program and the proceedings); (b) the presenting author must attend and present the paper at the conference (presenting authors who fail to attend will have their paper withdrawn from the proceedings); and (c) we ask that you be ready to serve as a reviewer for fellow authors and follow review deadlines - all authors who submit a paper are expected to review two papers.

There are also opportunities to organize invited sessions or panels – if you would like to serve as a Session Chair within the track, please reach out to us. In addition to research and practitioner presentations, the annual conference offers many opportunities for attendees, including plant tours, networking, and keynote speakers.

The deadline for abstract submission is November 7, 2016. Abstracts are required to be between 100 and 200 words. To submit an abstract please visit: https://www.xcdsystem.com/iise/abstract/index.cfm?ID=A3abIcc. Conference web site: www.iise.org/annual
