Interactive Labelling

Grace offers many ways to modify the default labelling strategy. Let us restart the program, either by clicking on the RESTART button, or clicking on STEP after all solutions have been found; this by default also restarts the program from its beginning. The matrix display shows again the first variable in red, because it is the selected one. Now move the pointer to the fourth variable and press the first mouse button. This pops up a menu:

Select the first item, select. You can see that the red rectangle has moved to the fourth variable, i.e. we have told Grace to label this variable now. Clicking on STEP will instantiate this variable and select the next one:

Let us now change the default value selection strategy. When you press the VALUE... menubutton, a menu with available value selection strategies appears:

We can select for instance the item Largest Element, so that the values of the selected variable will be enumerated from the largest to the smallest one. On the next STEP we can see that the value selection strategy has indeed changed:

The first variable is now bound to 8 and it is also the value shown in the varstack.

Grace lets you also instantiate a given variable to a particular value: move the cursor to the last variable and type 4 on the keyboard. This instantiates the variable to the value 4:
