The team formed by students Felipe Chen Wu (Applied Mathematics), Gabriel de Março (Bachelor in Computer Science) and Letícia Freire (Bachelor in Computer Science) and Professor Márcia Cerioli (PESC) who was a coach, participated on Saturday, 8 October 2022, along with 4 other UFRJ teams, from the first phase of the Programming Marathon, held at Stone, downtown Rio, achieving first place at the headquarters, solving 11 of the 14 problems of the test.

The regional stage is carried out by states, with centralized correction, in which 556 teams from 170 Brazilian institutions participated, and in this ranking this UFRJ team was in fifth place.

The Programming Marathon is a competition promoted by the Brazilian Computing Society since 1996, which also selects Brazilian representatives for the ACM-ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest). It consists of a 5-hour test in which the team must solve as many problems as possible in less time and with less penalty, using a single computer and consulting only printed material. Problems deal with various topics in computational theory, discrete mathematics, and algorithms; they must have their modeling mathematical modeling and also the implementation of a program that performs the resolution, also including sophisticated data structures so that the complexity of the algorithms is admissible in time.

This year, there are 60 vacancies in the national test, with representatives from almost all states in Brazil. It will be held in Campo Grande-MS, on March 18 and 19, 2023 and the UFRJ team will have support from the PESC for its participation.
